Selling a home these days is all about image. The problem that most people have is that they put a lot of effort into making the interior of their home look absolutely wonderful but fail to do the same for the exterior of their home. The fact is, many people looking to purchase a new home drive around the neighborhood and look around first and, if the outside of your home doesn’t look good, it doesn’t matter how wonderful the inside looks, they will just keep on going.
With that in mind we put together a blog today with 5 excellent tips that will help you to improve your home’s exterior and sell it much quicker. Enjoy.
Give it a Fresh Coat of Paint. One of the least expensive but most visually appealing things that you can do for the exterior of your home is to give it a fresh coat of paint. Even better, painting the exterior and matching the doors, window frames and other parts with pleasant but relatively neutral colors will help to instantly make your home much more visually appealing.
Pressure Wash your Home and Driveway. Renting a pressure washer for one or two days is relatively inexpensive and one of the best ways to give your house and driveway a bath. If you live in an area where mold tends to grow quickly on the outside of your home you might even consider purchasing a pressure washer so that you can give it a good going over every couple of weeks while you’re trying to sell it.
Trim Trees, Shrubbery and Bushes. There’s nothing that turns off buyers more quickly than seeing a house with overgrown shrubs, trees with dead limbs or bushes that look like they have a mind of their own. For that matter, keeping your lawn in fine shape and making sure that it’s full, lush and green is also an excellent idea. Doing it yourself if you know how is very inexpensive but, if you don’t, hiring a lawn maintenance company to do it while you’re trying to sell your house is a must.
Add some Decorations. Putting a seasonal wreath on your front door, and attractive wicker chair and table on your front porch (if you have one) or even a flag out front can add a splash of color that is very attractive and will also attract buyers. When you take care of the outside of your house the average buyer will also assume that the inside has been taken care of as well, something that will make them more likely to stop, grab your information and make an appointment with their real estate agent to give you a visit.
Get rid of all your Junk. We talked about trimming your trees and shrubbery but if there’s anything that could possibly turn buyers off more it’s seeing the yard, driveway or front porch loaded with junk. When you’re trying to sell your house you really need to get rid of anything unattractive and clean up everything on the outside as much as possible. That includes getting rid of children’s toys, cleaning bugs out of outside light fixtures and doing some sweeping for spider webs, leaves and other natural junk.
As we said earlier, the first thing that people will see when they drive by your home is the exterior and if it looks great the chance that they’ll want to come inside and have a look is going to be much higher. Most of the suggestions we made above are very inexpensive and could be taken care of during a long weekend. If you’re keen on selling your house quickly and for a good price, using the suggestions and tips above is a must.
